Description
88 km – 108 Temple – 5 Halts
The Panchkroshi Yatra is an ancient 88-km circumambulation of Kashi, believed to define the sacred geography of the city.
Traditionally completed on foot over five days, the yatra moves through villages, forests, farmlands, riverbanks, and temple clusters, touching 108 shrines and five major halts. It is not just a ritual journey, but a movement through layers of mythology, Shaiva cosmology, settlement history, and lived rural Kashi.
Each halt marks a shift in landscape and meaning – from ancient stone temples and Gana shrines to dharmashalas, kunds, and village mandirs that still serve everyday devotional life. For centuries, pilgrims have walked this route believing that Kashi is not just a city, but a LIVING MANDALA – a sacred circuit meant to be experienced slowly, step by step.
How We Are Doing This Yatra (TTL Format)
This is not a vow-based or ritual-heavy pilgrimage.
We are approaching Panchkroshi as an explanatory, learning, and exploratory yatra — meant for seekers who want to understand Kashi as much as experience it.
What stays the same
• We follow the traditional Panchkroshi route
• We move in one continuous sacred direction only
• The focus remains on temples, geography, stories, and symbolism
What changes
• We will be travelling by vehicle, not on foot
• We will visit most key temples, not all 108
• The emphasis is on context, meaning, and discussion, not ritual obligations
Daily Flow
• Each day focuses on a specific stretch of the Panchkroshi circuit
• We explore temples of Shiva, Ganas, village deities, kunds, and ancient halts
• Stories cover hindu history, pilgrimage logic, sacred geography, and lived traditions
• By sunset, we return to our base every day
• The entire journey unfolds over 4 days
Who This Is For:
• Those curious about why Panchkroshi exists, not just how to do it
• Seekers interested in Kashi beyond ghats and aartis
• Travelers who want to explore pilgrimage as knowledge, not obligation
This is Panchkroshi not as a checklist, but as a map of Kashi’s inner logic, experienced slowly, explained deeply, and explored thoughtfully.
